First Mars image of the season. Mars has moved far enough north in the sky so I can finally see it from my observing location.

I was fighting clouds and equipment problems so I didn't get an image until well after sunrise, and through some clouds.

Really good seeing, and I tried to have my scope collimated as well as possible. I'm still working on the color balance.

I always seem to have bad luck when Syrtis Major is facing me. Seeing was very poor for this session, much worse than other days this month. I haven't gotten a decent image of it since August 2003; maybe I'll get lucky next time in about 6 weeks.

Average seeing. Note that one of these images was taken after sunrise. I find that the sky is still dark enough to do meaningful imaging 30 minutes after sunrise, but by 60 minutes the air is getting too turbulent for useful images.

Better seeing this time ... to see the "boring" side of Mars :) Note the darkening in Elysium, and the dark feature running parallel to Mare Cimmerium to its north.

The best seeing so far! Note the dark spot on the lower left side of the images. It is Olympus Mons. It usually appears brighter than its surroundings, but here it is darker apparently because of closeness to the terminator and the low sun angle on its

Camera Comparison with Mars
Comparing photos of Mars taken with my trusty webcam, and with my new TIS DFK 21AF04.AS camera. The new camera shows much better detail than I've even been able to accomplish before because of its much faster exposure speed.
