Scott, Howard and Alan from ACI Concrete dug the footings and poured the cement for the deck and lower pier. It was a wonderful day weatherwise, with temps going from 51 F at 8:30am to 65 F by the time they finished around 11:30am. Howard is an amateur astronomer as well. He built an 8" reflector. While digging the holes, we discussed astronomy and equipment.
